How do you start your New Year? Itโ€™s parkrunย for us!

An early start and a BBC Coventry & Warwickshire interview on the way about pakrun with Dan Sambell we got to Tetbury just in time.

The weather might have been dark, wet and wild. But at Tetbury Goods Shed parkrun you needed sunglasses, a Jog On meetup was on and there were orange tops everywhere you looked.

We were there to meet up with our friends, Jim, Natalie and family, ardent Jog Onners, and it was great to meet Harry himself, playing the tour guide role well with his on brand orange brolly.

The parkrun was certainly a wild one, Iโ€™d mistakenly not put trail shoes on and the course was decidedly slippery with mud in places, but great fun, I love a wild weather run (not sure Iona and Ewan were quite as keen). Big kudos to the volunteers out on the course standing there in the pouring rain.

parkrun done, meetup photo taken, it was time for breakfast, with most cafes closed including the Goods Shed Cafe, some frantic googling and calling located the Close Restaurant, who graciously said they would keep the kitchen open for us and serve some very wet and muddy parkrunners a delicious breakfast by their lovely log fire (we did look slightly out of place in such grand surroundings!)

A quick explore of Tetbury, a lovely place but mostly shut on New Yearโ€™s day, it was time to return to the warmth of the car.

On our journey home, we stopped off at National Trust’s Charlecote Park for another dose of Christmas Cheer, our fourth Festively Decorated National Trust property this Christmas.

We were โ€œparty guestsโ€ of Mary Elizabeth and George Lucy, the Victorian owners of Charlecote Park, and we followed a Christmas Games trail to discover the gifts that Mary could gift the servants, while also playing a quick game of cards.

Party over, we headed out to the washrooms and kitchens, definitely chilly today, but Iโ€™m sure would have been toasty with all the stoves on.

What a fabulous Little Adventure Day to start the New Year. Enjoyed Tetbury parkrun despite the wild weather and great to spend time with the Vidlers and the Jog On crew. Charlecote definitely put on a fabulous party for us to enjoy as we come towards the end of the Christmas season.

Hope youโ€™ve enjoyed todayโ€™s little adventure, and if you fancy a bit more festive cheer check out our video of our visit to Hereford parkrun and a 70s themed Christmas Day at Hanbury Hall.
